Public school supporter Matt Damon enrolls his kids in pricey private schools

LOS ANGELES – Actor Matt Damon should familiarize himself with the wise old adage, “It’s better to keep your mouth shut and allow people to presume you’re an idiot than to open it and remove all doubt.”  In a recent interview with the Guardian, Damon proved to the world that he’s not only an idiot, he’s a hypocrite, as well.

As points out, Damon has long supported public schools through personal appearances at rallies and other advocacy efforts. At a Washington D.C. “Save our Schools” rally in 2011, Damon told teachers “our appreciation for what you do is so deeply felt.

“We love you, we thank you, and we’ll always have your back,” Damon said after fondly recalling his life-changing experiences in public schools.

But apparently Damon isn’t showing his love for public school teachers in Los Angeles, where he recently enrolled his daughters in private schools. His reason for the hypocrisy?  Public schools aren’t progressive enough.

“Sending our kids in my family to private schools was a big, big, big deal. And it was a giant family discussion. But it was a circular conversation, really, because ultimately we don’t have a choice. I mean, I pay for private education and I’m trying to get the one that most matches the public education I had, but that kind of progressive education no longer exists in the public system,” Damon told the Guardian. “It’s unfair.”
